The IWSR has a unique methodology which allows us better than any other source to get closer to what is actually consumed and understand better how markets work. The IWSR uses all available published statistics (government, association, foreign trade statistics, press articles) but unlike any other source, the IWSR conducts face-to-face interviews with 1,500 companies in each of the key 118 local markets each year, with further input from over 350 companies. Tapping into local expertise to supplement and interpret commonly available statistics has been the IWSR’s unique approach since the late 1980s.

We have found that local operators know their markets best – this is why we spend so much researching at a local level. We see importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, producers, duty free/travel retail operators and in some areas of the world, grey market operators.
We measure total consumption, covering both on-premise and off-premise.
In each Country Report we show the percentage split between on-premise and off-premise for each brand line. The core source of this information is local companies.
We visit as many operators as possible in each market, in order to calculate the real volume of consumption in each market.
The time our researcher spends in each country varies widely. In some very small markets it is possible to see the major players in as little as two days, while the largest markets can require up to four weeks.
We can’t be sure. However, we triangulate company data, our local in-market research and draw on our 40 years’ experience to produce the most trusted beverage alcohol analysis.
Our database goes back to 1985 at a category level in some cases, or to when countries opened up to imported drinks in others.

A subscription to our database is for a specific set of data, rather than for a specific length of time. If you subscribe to data for consumption in France in 2014 (for example) then you will be able to access that data indefinitely. If you decide the following year that you want to subscribe to data for 2015 you will need to resubscribe.
Your subscription entitles any full time employee of your company or any 100%-owned subsidiary to use our data, based on either site/country, regional or global access licenses. You should make all users aware that no part of the data may be shared with any 3rd party without the express permission of the IWSR.
We aim to deliver data immediately upon receiving written confirmation of your order with invoicing details, and you should certainly have access within 24 hours. For very complex orders it can take longer than 24 hours to deliver in full.

Yes, you can contact the individual analysts. Each PDF Country Report has an e-mail address for the analyst on the front page. Our website shows which analysts cover which countries and allows you to e-mail the analysts directly.
