Custom Research – Intern

About the role

This internship programme embeds the successful candidate in the thick of our cross-functional consulting team. With training in how to access, analyse and surface our key data sources, the intern will become an important part of the team and will interact and learn from all team members, and become familiar with all IWSR datasets and processes. At the end of the programme, the intern will have a firm understanding on how to take a business problem and convert it into meaningful insights through the use of data.

The internship would last a minimum of 3 months, and we can accommodate flexible timings beyond this, including up to 12 months if part of a prescribed university “sandwich” year in industry.

What we offer:

  • Hands-on experience with the consulting process, from problem definition, scoping, planning, executing and delivering industry-leading market insights
  • Experience in designing, testing and analysing primary consumer survey data
  • Training in how to analyse large datasets / databases and how to convert data into insights
  • Training and experience in quality control and data audit
  • Assisting in preparing client deliverables
  • Inclusion in broader team trainings to develop skill-set
  • Regular Manager supervision contact to support learning


Required skills and experience

Candidates requirements:

  • Completed at least two years of undergraduate degree programme, or a Graduate
  • Demonstrable quantitative abilities (Maths A level or equivalent, and/or a STEM degree)
  • London based, or ability to commute to London office (SE1) 2-3 times per week
  • Already eligible to work in the UK
  • Fluency in spoken English and a high standard of written communication


The following are not required but would be advantageous:

  • Academic experience in statistics
  • Masters-level qualifications or current enrolment in a Masters-level degree
  • WSET qualifications or equivalent
  • Market Research Society or Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications
  • Fluency in any of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Mandarin, Japanese
  • Working knowledge of SPSS, R, or Q statistical analysis software
