Julie joined IWSR in September 2023 and brings a wealth of experience in consumer media as well as digital, data and insight businesses.
She has successfully led a number of organisations across different markets and sectors including, most recently, Comparison Technologies a leading comparison and customer acquisition platform in the home digital services market. Prior to that, she was CEO of Upper Street Events, a consumer exhibitions company, which she led the sale of in early 2019. Previously, Julie was Global CEO of WGSN the world’s leading fashion, lifestyle and product design trend forecasting company.
Julie has been a Non-Executive Director on the board of Which? Ltd, a subsidiary of the Consumers' Association, since 2015.
Alastair joined the IWSR in 1988 after graduating from Edinburgh University. Since then, he has researched more than half of the countries covered by the IWSR. Alastair ran and grew the company twelve-fold as managing director from 1995 to 2013.
Mark currently sits on IWSR’s Board of Directors. Prior to this role, Mark led IWSR as CEO from 2013 to 2023. Under Mark's leadership, IWSR has now become the global data source of record for the beverage alcohol industry. Over the past 5 years, Mark and the team have regularly presented key insights and trends to brand owner CEOs and their executive teams.
With over 25 years’ experience in the publishing and business information industry, including 10 years at the Guardian and then the Independent newspapers, Mark has led a number of high growth companies, including Datamonitor (CEO), Progressive Digital Media (CEO) and OVUM Technology (MD). Mark now has a number of non-executive and advisory roles within the drinks, data and private equity sectors.
Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)
Damien has 20 years’ experience in the business information industry and has worked for leading organisations such as Ovum, Datamonitor and 451 Research. During this time, Damien has supported clients large and small, from all sectors and across all continents.
As an experienced leader of sales, marketing and client services teams, Damien’s role is to lead our commercial teams to develop the IWSR’s propositions and portfolio of services to ensure our clients maximise the value of their engagement with the IWSR.
Chief Operations Officer (COO) Research & Operations
Emily has managed research teams and delivered market insights to consumer goods companies, in particular global beverages clients, for over two decades. She developed from concept and led the teams that built industry-leading global beer and other consumer databases. Previously CEO of Canadean (Globaldata), Emily started her career as a consumer goods analyst in the City, and her client experience includes many of the world’s leading consumer brands.

Richard leads IWSR’s consumer research and consulting divisions. Prior to this, Richard co-founded Wine Intelligence, the market leader for wine consumer data. Richard led the company’s operations for 20 years, before it was acquired by IWSR in 2020.

With a background in professional services and working with small companies going through rapid growth, Rebecca is an MSc and MCIPD qualified HR professional who brings generalist experience to the full spectrum of the HR remit. Focused on delivering the best possible employee experience with continuous improvement, Rebecca enjoys problem solving and bringing solutions to the table.

Jose Luis is Research Director for France and South America for the IWSR. He has covered research for the Mexico alcoholic drinks market for the last four years and has covered countries in all five continents during his 18 years at the IWSR.

After gaining 1st Class Honours in economics and Spanish at the University of Sussex, the lure of foreign travel and the chance to exercise his linguistic and analytical muscle led Daniel Mettyear straight to the IWSR.
Now research director for the wine category and Africa region, Daniel has gained extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of over 20 markets across five different regions during his time at the IWSR.
Research Director (Eastern Europe)
Originally from Poland, Piotr did a business studies degree at the University of West London. One of our most senior researchers, Piotr set up the IWSR’s US office, and his extensive annual travel schedule has included Central and Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Southeast Asia markets.
Research Director (North America)
Adam has spent a decade in the research industry with a focus on beverage alcohol. He began his research career with Millward Brown, a global market research, insight and consultancy division of London-based WPP plc. At the Beverage Information Group in the US, Adam was responsible for producing seven statistical handbooks and two online databases.
Adam joined the IWSR in October 2016 to cover the US market, expanding the IWSR’s coverage of the craft industry, beer and other specialty areas. Adam is part of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, Brewers Association and the Wine and Spirits network.
Research Director (Western Europe)
Prior to joining the IWSR Humphrey gained extensive experience in marketing and corporate communications in publishing and investment banking following a degree in French and Italian at Cambridge and a stage at the European Commission in Brussels.
He is fluent in French, Italian and Spanish and in 2012 qualified for the Advanced WSET Level 3 award in wine and spirits.
